OBRT Continues to Drill Down, Collaborate on Workforce Development
In November, the Ohio Business Roundtable joined the national Business Roundtable and OBRT member companies AEP and Accenture, among others, to launch a new collaboration called the Workforce Partnership Initiative to tackle workforce development issues in the Ohio region. The goal is for businesses to work closely with higher education, career technical programs, and ultimately high schools to better produce the workers needed in today’s economy and meet businesses’ future workforce needs. Following up on the successful launch of the Initiative, the group is planning its next steps to scale up programs that will help employers fill the thousands of unfilled job openings across our region. The video features AEP Chairman, President and CEO Nick Akins describing the Workforce Policy Initiative in detail.
Meanwhile, the OBRT continues to work on identifying areas where the collective expertise and firepower of our OBRT CEO members could work with Gov. DeWine and his administration on policies to improve Ohio’s workforce to better meet our members’ needs. During a lively workforce breakout session at the OBRT Annual Meeting, OBRT CEO members stressed the importance of prioritizing skill availability and education efficacy as the OBRT works to impact and improve Ohio workforce policy.
